Banque nationale de Belgique SA is Belgium’s central bank. It conducts monetary policy and reserve management, supervises financial institutions, and issues and exchanges banknotes and coins, including handling counterfeits and damaged notes. It collects annual accounts of companies, maintains data on loans, accounts and financial contracts in the Central and Corporate Credit Registers and the Central Point of Contact. It settles payments, advises public authorities, and carries out economic research. Headquartered in Brussels; founded in 1850.
