Xcel Data Center Tariff Plan Draws Pushback From Colorado Residents

In April Xcel released a large load tariff plan for charging data centers and other big commercial users for electricity in Colorado. About 60 such facilities exist, with more planned through 2031, drawing residents’ criticism that costs will be shifted to ratepayers and that power needs could delay coal retirements. Xcel says it backs state climate goals and that gas-only supply is possible but unlikely.
