Volkswagen Deal to Convert Germany Plant for Air-Defense Production
Volkswagen will convert its northwestern Germany car plant for defense production, potentially making systems and components for air-defense for Germany and Europe. Vehicle output at the site ends next year, but the works council says the plan could save about 1,400 of 1,800 jobs. The cooperation aims to enable further partnerships as VW cuts jobs under Future Plan 2030, while Germany’s defense budget is set to rise next year to €109.7 billion.
