Viasat secured the prime contract for Swarm 1 on May 22, 2026, covering manufacture, integration, testing, launch and on-orbit checkout of a protected military satellite communications system. The programme will include tracking, telemetry, command, network operations and cybersecurity, using Rocket Lab’s Lightning-GEO platform to carry Viasat’s dual-band X/Ka communications payload for contested environments.
