U.S. to pay TotalEnergies about $1 billion for canceled offshore wind leases
Proposed U.S. settlements would cancel Interior leases in federal waters for the Attentive Energy and Carolina Long Bay offshore wind projects. The Justice Department would then pay TotalEnergies more than $928 million to compensate for earlier winning lease bids. The company would abandon plans to begin building, with officials drafting agreements totaling about $1 billion.
