US Court Rejects Meta, TikTok Appeal in Thousands of Social Media Addiction Suits
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Meta and TikTok’s appeal, leaving in place a lower ruling requiring them to face more than 3,000 federal lawsuits. The court also denied Meta’s request to postpone a trial brought by 29 state attorneys general alleging illegal collection and use of children’s data, addictive design targeting youth, and consumer deception. Earlier California cases included jury findings and a $375 million award.
