United Utilities completes first stage of Moor Pool to Knutsford sewer storage tunnel
A 40-tonne tunnel boring machine nicknamed Lily has completed the first stage of United Utilities’ underground sewer upgrade, breaking through at Knutsford Wastewater Treatment Works before starting the return journey to Moor Pumping Station. The 1.8 km storage tunnel, about 20 m deep, will hold up to 5.5 million litres of stormwater, improving water quality at Moor Pool and supporting United Utilities’ wider multi-billion-pound investment plan.
