Union Vote Approves Hyundai Sellout Contract with 100,000 Won Pay Rise

After the Korean Metal Workers’ Union (KMWU) vote on Aug. 31, it moved to shut down Hyundai partial strikes that had totaled about 120 hours since June. The deal grants a 100,000-won monthly base-pay increase—near the company’s offer but below the union’s initial demand. KMWU said the package was worth 40.84 million won per worker, contrasting a leaked insider estimate, and management agreed to hire 500 more despite nearly 10,000 jobs cut over the past decade.
