Uber Joins Labor in Pushback on DC Mass Autonomous Vehicle Bill
Labor unions opposing mass autonomous vehicle deployment in Washington, D.C. have found an ally in Uber. The D.C. bill under debate would expand robotaxi use, raising concerns about driver wages and job opportunities for an estimated 35,000 gig drivers (about 9% of the labor force) and the area’s steep job losses. Despite $10 billion in capital spending, Uber backs the unions in the bill debate.
