Tyson Foods Shuts Joslin, Illinois Beef Plant, Laying Off 2,500
Tyson Foods abruptly closed a beef processing plant in Joslin, Illinois, laying off about 2,500 workers. The UFCW, representing more than 2,000 of them, said they received no advance notice. Affected employees, including those with 10 to 30 years at the plant, face about half their prior pay, despite Tyson’s high profits and CEO Donnie King’s reported $34 million earnings last year.
