Hiroshi Okuda, Toyota’s president from 1995 and widely credited as the architect behind the Prius and the company’s global push, died at 93. He launched Vision 2005 to expand overseas manufacturing and doubled overseas sales, then backed hybrid plans: Prius debuted in Oct. 1997 and surpassed 6 million units worldwide, helping make electrified driving mainstream.
