Tesla and BYD Gain in Korea as Wage Strikes Hit Domestic Automakers
Prolonged labor strikes at Hyundai, Kia, KGM, Renault Korea and GM Korea cut August domestic sales 28.3% to 79,601 vehicles, while imports rose 9.2% to 29,817. Tesla sold 10,400 units and BYD 3,002, with both together about 45% of imported car sales as Korean demand shifts toward more price-competitive EVs.
