TEPCO Starts Fifth Round of Fukushima Tritium Water Discharge for FY2026
TEPCO began the fifth scheduled release of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear-contaminated water into the Pacific for fiscal 2026. Planned to run from Aug. 31 to Sept. 18, the discharge is expected to involve about 7,800 metric tons of water containing roughly 1.2 trillion becquerels of tritium. TEPCO reports about 1.235 million metric tons remain in storage tanks as of Aug. 13.
