Synchrony Financial is working with OpenAI to let shoppers use Synchrony store cards to buy items directly inside ChatGPT, aiming to reduce the need to leave the chatbot for checkout. In-chat transactions are not seamless yet, and bringing cards into ChatGPT may take 6–12 months, longer for private-label cards. Open questions remain on credit-data handling and transaction economics among retailers, Synchrony and OpenAI.
