Starbucks Blending Powder Goes Airborne, Causing Baristas’ Illness
Baristas at a Starbucks in San Jose, Calif. became ill while learning to make blended refreshers that used an ingredient called blending powder to keep drinks slushy. As Destiny Valencia handled the powder, it went airborne and she developed headaches. Colleagues questioned whether it was safe to breathe; baristas around the country later reported hives and asthma attacks.
