Stadler’s Biel steel foundry to undergo €35M modernization
Stadler steel-casting subsidiary Stadler Stahlguss is preparing a 33-million-Swiss-franc (€35 million) modernization of its Biel foundry, with work due to start in early 2027 and new infrastructure operating in 2028. The project adds a dispatch hall, building extensions, and about 8,900 sqm of solar panels, targeting ~15% lower energy use and ~80% less waste through more efficient sand recovery. Stadler expects 115 jobs to remain while the workforce grows ~5%, alongside improved safety and less physically demanding work.
