Southern Company cleared Georgia Public Service Commission review for Georgia Power to serve an OpenAI data center project in Effingham County. OpenAI will fund infrastructure and electric service costs and provide financial assurances. The utility expects incremental large-customer revenue to deliver about $950 million in annual rate relief from 2029, supported by a 25-year customer-funded plan and up to 1GW flexible demand response.
