Sony Music Publishing and Warner Chappell Music accuse Anthropic and its cofounders Dario Amodei and Benjamin Mann of illegally torrenting, scraping, and downloading copyrighted works on a massive scale to develop and run the Claude AI models. The complaint says Anthropic collected thousands of songs, including Eye of the Tiger and Taylor Swift tracks, and points to a June 2025 ruling on millions of pirated books, arguing this enables AI-generated lyrics that could compete with human-made songs.
