Sony and TSM Launch $4.7 Billion Joint Venture for Next-Gen Image Sensors
Sony Group and Taiwan Semiconductor will form a $4.7 billion joint venture to develop and manufacture next-generation image sensors for smartphones, aiming to capture AI-era camera demand. Sony will be the venture’s sole controlling shareholder, leading core image-sensor technology and product design and contributing about $2.92 billion partly via its Kumamoto chip factory; mass production is expected in 2029.
