Seattle Times Sues OpenAI and Microsoft Over Copyright Infringement
Seattle Times, joined by Newsday, filed a federal lawsuit accusing OpenAI of using their published work to train large language models and of diluting their trademarks by generating fabricated content falsely attributed to the outlets. A Microsoft spokesperson said it is surprised, noting changes granting OpenAI more independence while Microsoft remains a major shareholder. The Justice Department argued AI benefits outweigh competitive harm.
