Scotiabank Profit Rises 17% as Capital Markets Gains and ROE Target Advances
Scotiabank reported net income of $2.95-billion, up 17% in the quarter ended July 31, beating analysts with adjusted earnings of $2.28 per share. Adjusted ROE was 14.2%. The bank kept a $1.08-billion credit-loss provision and said Canadian banking profit rose to $1.07-billion, while capital markets profit climbed 37% to $647-million. It now targets 14% ROE by 2027.
