Norfolk Southern and Wabtec announced an expanded program to modernize 33 Evolution Series locomotives by converting them from DC to AC traction. Wabtec will upgrade the units with AC traction motors, control systems, and advanced digital technologies, plus improved diagnostics and maintenance planning to boost reliability and efficiency and extend locomotive life. Norfolk Southern says rail shipping helps customers avoid about 15 million tons of yearly carbon emissions.
