Nokia to shut R&D facility in China and cut 1,600 jobs

Plans would shutter Nokia’s research-and-development facility in Hangzhou, eliminating about 1,600 jobs, as part of efforts to integrate China operations into global structure. With Nokia Shanghai Bell under full control, management targeted roughly €200 million of savings. Employee numbers had been trending down toward about 70,000 by 2026, while the broader restructuring could put more than 2,000 European roles at risk.
