Nokia Closes Hangzhou R&D Site and Shrinks China Presence

Nokia plans to close its Hangzhou research and development site, cutting about 1,600 R&D jobs, and shutter additional offices in Beijing, Chengdu, Qingdao and Shanghai. Remaining work will be folded into Nokia Shanghai Bell, after Nokia fully bought out the JV in late 2025. The move follows US and EU telecom restrictions, and Chinese media criticized it amid job-loss fears and concerns for technology collaboration.
