At a news conference, Nidec CEO Mitsuya Kishida apologized after a company investigation found 844 cases of quality-control misconduct over the past decade. Many involved changing materials or manufacturing processes without approval; others included faked tests and false labeling. The issues date back to 2012 and were uncovered following last year’s accounting fraud. No safety problems or massive recalls have been identified.
