Federal regulators say some older Ford cars and SUVs face unreasonable safety risks tied to the 1.0L turbocharged three-cylinder timing belt. The NHTSA upgraded its defect investigation covering 135,551 vehicles from model years 2014–2021 after reports of low oil pressure warnings before loss of power or engine seizures, with an average failure around 70,000 miles. Ford will shorten the belt interval via a non-safety customer satisfaction program.
