Meta Discusses Mid-Trial Settlement in Youth Safety Lawsuit Threat
Meta and state attorneys general have discussed a mid-trial settlement as the company faces claims that it designed its platforms to be addictive to younger users and improperly collected children’s data. A federal Oakland trial began August 12 with consumer-protection and Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act claims by 29 states. Meta denies wrongdoing and challenges states’ estimated penalties, while earlier bellwether verdicts found similar social-media harm liability.
