Mazda Patent Points to Exhaust Setup for Potential Turbo Rotary Return
Mazda has filed a patent for a rotary-engine exhaust system that routes side-port exhaust gases directly to a turbocharger, while peripheral-port air goes through an EGR cooler using engine coolant before returning to the intake. Mazda says the approach could cut emissions when active, though there are no official plans to bring back rotary engines. A European product lead also suggested the Iconic SP concept could reach production with conditions.
