Maryland’s tax court invalidated the state’s first-in-the-nation tax on digital advertising and ordered officials to repay taxes already collected from large tech firms including Apple and Google and Peacock TV. Approved in 2021 to raise about $250 million a year for a K-12 measure, the 2.5% levy on companies’ revenue was struck down as unconstitutional for restricting speech and mishandling interstate commerce.
