Li Auto confirmed it designs and manufactures its own battery packs while using contract manufacturing for battery cells. It says collaborating with multiple cell makers will not add after-sales quality or service inconsistencies. Proprietary batteries are already in mass production for the L8, L6 and i8. The MEGA first batch uses CATL 5C ternary cells, but later orders receive Li Auto’s 5C cells from November; the i9 starts with CATL until in-house capacity ramps, after development begun in 2020.
