LG Electronics signed an MoU with E-Cycle Governance and South Korea’s Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment to launch a pilot recovering rare-earth permanent magnets from discarded refrigerators and air conditioners. Using demagnetization and AI vision to identify compressor magnets, the project targets about 1.6 metric tons annually from roughly 40,000 appliances for recycling into new magnet materials.
