Kia’s labor union decided on Aug. 22 to hold a partial strike for 2–4 hours per shift over three days from Aug. 26 to 28, citing a pay and benefits standoff after the National Labor Relations Commission suspended negotiations. The union sought changes including a 4.5-day workweek and raising retirement to 65, while management offered a 98,000-won wage increase and a performance bonus tied to 400% plus 12 million won. Hyundai’s union staged a full eight-hour strike on Aug. 19.
