John Deere to Expand Ethanol Tractor Trials in Nebraska and Illinois
John Deere is expanding field trials of its 8R ethanol-powered tractors to Nebraska and Illinois this fall, using E98 prototypes with a 9.0-liter engine. The units have already completed early testing in Kentucky and more units are running in the U.S. and Brazil, with real-world performance reported as positive. Commercial rollout is still 4–5 years away, and Deere is working with corn grower groups on ethanol storage and fuel supply while advancing certified Tier 4 biodiesel engines for B30.
