Iowa to Receive $136M From Meta Settlement Over Child Harm Claims
Iowa will receive $136 million from a $17 billion settlement between Meta Platforms and 47 states after allegations Meta designed Facebook and Instagram to be addictive for children. The deal includes safeguards against bullying and content promoting eating disorders, suicide, and self-harm, restricts access from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m., removes weekday push notifications during school hours, and adds independent auditing of the changes’ implementation and effectiveness.
