Intel’s Frozen $283M Grant Is Redirected to Israel’s Defense Budget
Israel approved transferring about NIS 1 billion ($333 million) to its defense budget for urgent needs, including roughly NIS 850 million ($283 million) from the Ministry of Economy and Industry. The amount had been earmarked as a grant to Intel for expanding its Kiryat Gat chip site, but Intel froze the expansion in June 2024, leading to cancellation of the planned 2025 Intel grant. A NIS 1.06 billion ($353 million) grant for 2026 remains in the budget.
