IDBI Bank disinvestment could force Fairfax open offer
Proposed disinvestment of IDBI Bank may trigger a mandatory open offer by Fairfax Holdings, though no DIPAM proposal to require one is reportedly in place. The Government and LIC plan to sell a combined 60.72% stake. EAS Sarma criticizes the low reserve price, process transparency, a claimed breach of a 2003 parliamentary assurance, and treatment of minority shareholders, noting IDBI Bank’s July 14, 2026 disclosure said DIPAM’s proposal was unknown to the bank and its shareholders.
