IBM Launches Serve Quality Feature for US Open App

IBM, powering the US Open’s digital app and website, launched Serve Quality to quantify and rank tennis serve technique. The feature tracks 21 body joints and metrics like ball toss, wrist flexion, and racquet positioning at 50 times per second, using IBM AI to generate a near real-time score delivered to fans’ screens. IBM used two seasons of Hawk-Eye optical limb-tracking data and expects to collect 1.2 billion data points by the end of the tournament.
