Hyundai Steel Begins Louisiana EAF Mill, Construction Waits for Air Permit
Hyundai Steel plans a $5.8B electric arc furnace mill in Louisiana, its first steel plant in North America. The ultra-low-carbon facility is planned on about 1,700 acres in Donaldsonville within the RiverPlex MegaPark. Site work began and a deepwater dock project is underway, but construction awaits Louisiana DEQ approval of an air permit setting pollutant limits. The Hyundai-Posco Louisiana Steel JV expects to open in 2029 and produce 2.7 million metric tons annually for automotive use.
