Hitachi Acquires Electrochaea Biomethanation IP to Build GX Solutions
Hitachi said it acquired Electrochaea’s biomethanation technology rights and related assets to further develop the method as its own technology base. After a licensing agreement in November 2024, Hitachi and Hitachi Power Solutions advanced demonstrations in Japan, planning to supply equipment and provide operation and maintenance. The companies aim by 2030 to establish a GX solution model for mid-scale facilities, supporting Japan’s goal of replacing 1% of city gas supply with synthetic methane and biogas by fiscal 2030.
