GM Launches Up to $4.5B Plan to Secure Critical Parts Against Disruptions
General Motors is setting up a plan to secure as much as $4.5 billion of critical parts to keep production running if extreme weather, natural disasters, cyberattacks, or other shocks disrupt supply. Procura Auto Parts will buy and finance inventory from key suppliers, store it, and GM will purchase parts as needed, paying interest and fees upfront. Prior COVID-19 and semiconductor shortages showed how missing components can force costly production stoppages.
