Fortescue produced inaugural hot metal at its Green Metal Project in Christmas Creek, Western Australia, demonstrating early operation of an electric smelting furnace. The pilot uses blended feedstock during staged commissioning to test and optimize technology for producing lower-carbon metal from Pilbara ore before scaling to larger volumes. The project supports Fortescue’s transition away from coal-based iron-making.
