Takeda said the FDA approved rusfertide, marketed as Mimrylo, for adults with polycythemia vera to help control abnormally high red blood cells and reduce cardiovascular problems. It is the first medicine of its kind for the disease, with Phase 3 results showing about 77% of patients avoided phlebotomies over 32 weeks. Takeda expects peak yearly sales around $2 billion and noted a $4,200 list price per vial, with Protagonist receiving $275 million plus possible additional payouts and royalties.
