ExxonMobil Fined £267,000 for Flammable Gas Leaks at Scottish Plant
ExxonMobil was fined £267,000 after five leaks of highly flammable hydrocarbons at its former Mossmorran ethylene plant in Scotland. HSE inspectors said the corrosion-detection and prevention arrangements were woefully inadequate and that luck prevented a catastrophic outcome. Two leaks reportedly lasted about four months, and two more were found after inspections. The company accepted responsibility and said it made changes to inspections and corrosion risk management.
