Engie Begins Building 296MWh Battery Storage Near Lixhe Hydropower
Engie has started building a 296MWh battery energy storage system near the Lixhe hydropower plant in Belgium, aiming to add grid flexibility for daily balancing and to bolster supply security. The facility is part of a wider energy-hub site with pumped storage, solar and EV charging, and commissioning is planned for early 2028. Belgium’s grid storage growth has been supported by a storage-friendly regulatory regime and TSO Elia’s capacity market revenues.
