DWI Orders Severn Trent to Cut Discoloured Water Incidents
The Drinking Water Inspectorate has issued a Regulation 28(4) notice requiring Severn Trent to run a programme to reduce the risk of discoloured drinking water across multiple network zones. The company must benchmark a discolouration strategy, build a dynamic risk-assessment methodology and define an audit strategy by early September, with work continuing until April 2031 and Board-level Director sign-off. The action follows risks identified in reports made from 2024 to 2026 and around 40 relevant discolouration incidents in England in 2024.
