DTE, Consumers Energy: July 3 storms stronger than forecasts
Consumers Energy and DTE said the July 3 thunderstorms in Michigan intensified beyond forecasts, driving far more power outages than expected. Consumers reported 136,319 customer interruptions and 1,656 outages versus a worst-case plan for 600 outages. DTE called the storm among its most damaging, citing 9,600 outage events, 3,200 downed wires, and hundreds of broken poles and uprooted trees.
