Drax bioenergy plant granted emissions permit for carbon capture
After consultations beginning with Drax’s application in May 2023, the Environment Agency granted a permit variation allowing a Drax bioenergy plant to capture CO2 from electricity generation and transport it for permanent storage under the North Sea. The regulator said evidence showed the company can meet mandatory environmental-law conditions and operate without harm to the environment, people, or wildlife, with further regulation for related infrastructure.
