Deep Isolation and Halliburton plan test well using oil drilling for nuclear waste
Deep Isolation’s Deep Borehole Demonstration Center aims to address the nation’s nuclear waste disposal by applying oil-drilling techniques underground. CEO Rod Baltzer says buried waste canisters could be retrieved in emergencies. Halliburton will drill the first test well early next year with an extra-large bit, using vertical and horizontal trajectories at thousands of feet to demonstrate feasibility.
