D3 Sues Meta, TikTok and YouTube Over Addictive Design
Portuguese consumer group D3 has filed four collective actions in Lisbon seeking to make Meta, TikTok and YouTube address alleged addictive design. D3 cites infinite scrolling, autoplay, persistent notifications and personalised recommendations that it says create behavioural feedback loops. The platforms reached 33 million monthly users in Portugal in early 2026, and the suit follows similar foreign challenges, including EU action against TikTok and a Meta US settlement of up to $18 billion.
