BP to sell Houston-based biogas company amid sweeping divestments
In its second-quarter 2026 earnings report, BP said it has started the process to sell Houston-based Archaea Energy, acquired in 2022 for $4.1 billion. BP linked the move to broader divestments, including the recently completed sale of its Gelsenkirchen refinery, saying it could simplify the company, improve margins and strengthen cash-flow quality. On an Aug. 4 call, CFO Kate Thompson said BP is also looking to optimize supply-chain costs, simplify its organizational structure and use technology to be more competitive.
